NLIS · eNVD · LPA · BREEDPLAN — in one line Built for AU producers

From tag to truth.

NLIS Software
for Australian
cattle producers.

Tagline is NLIS, eNVD and LPA compliance software built for Australian cattle producers. Every tag tells a line — an audit-grade thread that runs from the first fitting to the last movement. NLIS, eNVD, treatments, paddock events, kill sheets, batch numbers from a photo of a label — all on one line. Print the line. The auditor's done.

01 / The architecture

Five things matter in compliance.
One line holds all of them.

i.

The Tag

NLIS-native identity. The tag isn't a field on an animal record — it's the source. Every fact in the system either attaches to a tag or it doesn't matter. No bolt-on. No add-on tier.

ii.

The Line

Immutable audit history. Every event — replacement, movement, treatment, kill sheet, eNVD, spray — attaches to a tag by ID, timestamped, by an authenticated user. Auditor calls? Print the line.

iii.

The Link

Direct to the registry. The eNVD GraphQL integration is built and our ISC production licence is approved — bi-directional sync pulls authoritative state back onto the line, so consignments don't get re-keyed into another portal. It's being switched on property by property now; until yours is live, the manual NVD path covers every movement. Sign the eNVD; the line proves it.

iv.

The Lens

AI extraction. Snap the bottle, the line writes itself — batch number, expiry, APVMA. Upload the supplier invoice; chemical lots, unit prices, line totals land in your inventory, and every dose deducts from on-hand automatically. Less typing. More truth on file. Inventory stays honest without a stocktake.

v.

The Layer

Multi-property from day one. One login covers every PIC. Cross-property movements raise NLIS transfers automatically. Managers see their place; you see the whole operation.

02 / How it works

One tag. One line. Every event held immutable from first fitting to last movement.

ACTIVE
i

Under the hood: tags own their assignments. Animals derive their current tag from an event log, not a mutable field. The database enforces "no concurrent tags" with a partial unique index — so even your worst data-entry day can't break the rule.

03 / How we compare

Every fact about every animal,
on one line. Nobody else does this.

Tagline is a compliance specialist, not a farm-management platform. We make NLIS, LPA, and eNVD compliance easier than anyone else. Open hardware — works with any standards-compliant reader, scale, or tag supplier. No vendor lock-in. No "12 modules" stretched thin. Just compliance, deeper than anyone else does it.

R

NLIS↔Farm
Reconciliation.

The commercially differentiated feature. Every RFID across both your farm records and the NLIS database is classified in real time: animals you have that NLIS doesn't know about, tags NLIS shows on your PIC that you can't account for, and records where origin PIC or transfer date don't match. A snapshot delta shows exactly what changed since you last reviewed.

  • IN_BOTH / NLIS_ONLY / FARM_ONLY / MISMATCH classification
  • "Since last review" snapshot — NEW / CHANGED / RESOLVED badges
  • Flag for Lodgement creates an NLIS Action automatically
  • Dismiss or snooze individual rows
  • Auto-baselines from the live NLIS sync — no manual CSV step
Tagline Reconciliation page — every RFID classified across NLIS database and farm register, with status badges and one-click actions per row.
C

Did the buyer actually
lodge it? We ask NLIS.

An NLIS movement is recorded by the receiver, not the vendor. You issue the NVD and load the truck — then the buyer has to lodge the transfer onto their PIC. Until they do, those tags are still sitting on your PIC, and that is your compliance problem, not theirs. It is the one step of a sale you cannot perform yourself, and most producers only discover it failed months later, at a reconciliation or an audit, when nobody remembers the load.

So Tagline asks the NLIS database directly. As an ISC-accredited NLIS integrator with production access live, the app queries the registry's own movement records on a schedule — no CSV download, no portal login, no waiting for you to remember. Every consignment you have sold is checked against what NLIS itself holds, and there are only two answers.

It landed. NLIS agrees the cattle moved to the buyer's PIC. You get an email — this NVD, this many head, now on this PIC — and the consignment carries a green ✓ NLIS mark with the registry's own movement date recorded against it. That is auditor-grade evidence, and it is the only evidence available to a vendor, because the lodgement was never yours to make.

It didn’t. The sale stays flagged on your dashboard as awaiting transfer, ageing by the day and turning red once it is overdue. A buyer who never lodges cannot quietly become your problem at audit time, because the app has been saying so since the week it happened — while you can still ring them.

  • Queries the NLIS registry directly — accredited integrator access, not a file export
  • Runs on a schedule, not on login, so it keeps watching on the days nobody signs in
  • Emails you on the change — a tick that quietly appears in a table is not news
  • Records the proof: destination PIC, the movement date NLIS holds, and when it was verified
  • Stamped once, so it evidences when the buyer lodged, not merely that they did
  • A count mismatch is never recorded as confirmed — a disagreement stays a disagreement
  • Outstanding loads age on the dashboard until they land, or until you chase them
K

Kill sheet ingestion.

Upload kill sheets directly from Nolan Meats, Bindaree, JBS, or Whyalla. Each row is matched to the animal record by RFID, lifecycle status updated to sold_for_slaughter, and the kill date, $/kg, and carcase data attached to the audit log. Feedlot-routed animals transition correctly from transferred_off without a date mismatch.

A

NLIS Actions workflow.

Every tag that needs a lodgement, every EU-deceased flag, every device the NLIS database returns "not authorised" — tracked in one workflow. Add dated notes, mark resolved, export pending actions to a spreadsheet for the NLIS helpdesk. Auto-resolves on the next NLIS sync once the device is authorised.

Tagline NLIS Reports page — Devices on PIC, EU / LT / JBAS / NEFAS reports, plus surfaces for NLIS Actions, Reconciliation and NLIS Database lookup.
M

Mobs that keep their history.

A mob is a real entity, not a label — formation date, append-only membership history, disbandment. When an auditor asks which animals were in the mob on the day it was treated, that is one query, not a reconstruction from yard sheets and paddock notes. Most farm software stores a mob as state; when you rearrange it the old shape is gone. Tagline keeps the line.

T

Tag rules, enforced.

One animal, one active tag, one period — enforced at the database level, not in a policy document. Lost tags are recorded with an explicit reason. Replacements are atomic: the old assignment ends and the new one begins in the same transaction. Bulk re-tagging is all-or-nothing.

D

Direct NLIS sync.

Tagline connects to the production NLIS database directly — no CSV exports, no email-yourself-the-Device-Query routine. Run a sync and the current state of every device on your PIC lands in the Reconciliation Sheet with EU and LT status per device. Unrecognised RFIDs raise an NLIS Action automatically. The monthly CSV path is still there as a fallback.

NLIS cleanup
service. Included.

Most farms come to us with NLIS records that haven't been reconciled in years — transferred-in animals with no proper state, mistakes from paper notebooks, lost tags that were never lodged. When you sign up, we sit with you and sort it out. We work through the Reconciliation Sheet line by line, lodge what needs lodging, and walk you through the workflow so it never gets that messy again. By the time you're done with onboarding, your records match reality. The audit trail is clean. No other software vendor does this — they hand you a manual and wish you luck.

L

LPA Audit Readiness.

Every section of the LPA QA pack — Property Risk, Biosecurity, Treatments, Chemical Inventory, Stock Foods, Dispatch, Livestock Movements — rolled into one dashboard. Each section is graded red / amber / green against the actual evidence on your line, with one-click "Fix →" to the exact record that needs updating. Audit week is now an afternoon.

Tagline LPA Audit Readiness page — RAG-graded sections of the LPA QA pack with per-row Fix actions and critical-gap banner.
F

Feed inventory & feeding records.

Hay, silage, pellets, grain, blocks, lick and molasses — record the delivery, then draw it down as you feed it out. Same shape as the chemical inventory: every kilo fed traces back to the lot, every lot back to the delivery docket. Feed records are one of the most common LPA audit gaps.

B

Biosecurity & welfare plans, live.

The LPA On-farm Biosecurity Management Plan held as structured data on the official LPA-06 template — one per property, generating the filled official PDF you upload. From 1 September 2026 LPA requires that upload for every property, so a plan that tracks the place beats a document written once. National biosecurity alerts pull in from the DAFF feed daily. What’s changing →

R

Chemical authorisations & the Reports Hub.

ChemCert / SMARTtrain operator accreditation, off-label authorisations and APVMA permits in one register — the human-side proof that whoever applied a chemical was allowed to. And a Reports Hub that lists every report the app can run, so you stop hunting through menus for the one the auditor asked for.

Satellite paddock
map.

Draw your paddock boundaries on Esri ArcGIS World Imagery satellite tiles — the clearest rural Australian imagery available, chosen after testing and rejecting Mapbox Satellite. Add a paddock, name it, assign animals. Boundaries persist and drive the paddock event log, the mob movement workflow, and the reconciliation sheet's paddock-confirmation signal.

  • Esri ArcGIS World Imagery — best rural AU coverage
  • Draw + edit paddock polygons in the browser
  • Paddock status overlay (in use / out of use / attention needed)
  • Tap a paddock to see current mob + recent events
  • Works on desktop and tablet in the yards office
Tagline Paddock Map — Esri satellite imagery with drawn paddock polygons, mob counts and event overlays.
P

Paddock event history.

Append-only log per paddock: sown, fertilised, sprayed, cultivated, mowed, out-of-use, back-in-use. Each event records product, rate, and date. Current pasture, last sown date, and last fertilised product are derived automatically and shown in the paddock list. Bulk-apply an event across multiple paddocks at once.

P

Paddock map, move mode.

Move a mob between paddocks on the map itself — tap the source then the destination, or press-and-drag on an iPad. Moving part of a mob is a subset picker, not a workaround. Every move writes to the paddock event history, so the map and the record never disagree.

Dashboard, with the wider world.

Loads first when you sign in. Herd snapshot by class and lifecycle, outstanding NLIS work and reconciliation flags, last five kill sheets with $/kg, best $/kg YTD, and paddock attention alerts (out-of-use / never sown / fertilise overdue). A live cattle markets ticker and configurable RSS feed strip — BoM weather precis for your state, market commentary, industry news — scroll across the top. Single API round trip — no spinner maze.

Tagline Dashboard — welcome card, property setup checklist, sale channels, NLIS Actions and Reconciliation summary tiles.

Insights — rainfall, restock, weekly digest.

Your property, in context. A long-term SILO rainfall strip shows YTD vs the 130-year average and a decile ranking — you know if this year is genuinely dry or just feels like it. A deterministic Restock Insights card computes carrying-capacity burn-rate from actual head count and paddock area — no guesswork about when to sell or buy. On Monday morning, an LLM-narrated weekly digest walks through what changed on the line — treatments, sales, NLIS moves, paddock events — and calls out what needs attention first.

M

Multi-property. One login.

Every paddock, mob, and event on every PIC you hold — under one login with a property switcher. Cross-property mob transfers handled natively, including automatic NLIS transfer notifications. Each property keeps its own staff, paddocks, and data isolation.

🤠

Yard Mode —
tag mistakes die in the crush.

The number-one cause of cattle records drifting from reality is tag mistakes made in the yard — wrong RFID paired with wrong visual, lost tag never updated in the register, both tags lost and the animal becomes anonymous. The mistake's invisible until weeks later, when the NVD doesn't match at sale or the LPA auditor opens the records. No competing software solves this. Yard Mode does.

Open Yard Mode on your tablet at the crush. Scan a tag with the phone camera, an RFID stick reader, or type it. The animal pops up — its paddock, withholding status, recent treatments. One tap to replace a lost tag — Tagline ends the old assignment, links the new tag, and auto-queues the NLIS lost-tag report so you never forget the compliance step.

Lost both tags? Run a mob scan, and Tagline's elimination algorithm figures out which animal got which new tag by matching what's missing against what's been scanned. No more "I'll fix it later." No more silent drift.

  • Camera barcode + QR scanning — works with the Allflex tags you already own
  • RFID stick reader compatible — HID keyboard mode, no driver install
  • Auto-queued NLIS lost-tag report on every replacement
  • Mob-scan elimination pairing for "both tags gone" recovery
  • Offline-first — no cell signal in the yard, no problem
  • Morning-after audit dashboard + CSV export for LPA compliance

Yard events — cows & calves in one pass.

Record a full yard treatment as a single event, but target it right. Cows get 7-in-1 and the drench; calves at foot get 5-in-1 and the marking dose — each product line picks the correct class automatically. Vaccine bottles draw down from the chemical inventory by batch, so your LPA-03 lot register updates itself as you dose. Fire the event from an Animal Register selection or a paddock mob; server-side rules stamp the paddock, guard against duplicates, and cascade-clean if the mob was wrong. Dose tracking runs on untagged calves at foot too — the batch trail survives even when the animal doesn't have a tag yet.

C

Calendar — what's coming up.

One month or week view that unions your own entries with everything the farm already implies: calving windows derived from joinings, scheduled yard days, paddocks coming back into use, and treatments falling due. Colour-coded by source, so you can see the season without opening five pages.

Advanced search
& filter.

Find any animal in seconds across every field that matters. Filter simultaneously by sex, class, paddock, birth year, EU status, LT status, tag colour, and date range. Multi-select on every dimension — "Cows and Heifers in Airstrip + Back Flat, born 2022–2023." Results pull from animals, kill sheet history, and tag buckets in one query.

  • Multi-token search across animals, kill sheets, and tag history
  • Seven simultaneous filter dimensions
  • Server-driven — not limited to whatever loaded on screen
  • 300ms debounce with abort on new keystroke
  • Results deep-link to animal detail panel
Tagline Animal Register — filterable table of animals with RFID, NLIS ID, breed, class, age, paddock, EBV columns and bulk actions.
W

Treatment, WHP, and the mob line.

Record treatments against individuals, a paddock's animals, or a named mob entity with append-only membership history. When the auditor asks "show me which animals were in mob X on 14 Feb when you drenched it" — one query, on the line, no reconstruction. Move a whole mob to another paddock in 1 click. Withholding period (WHP) and export slaughter interval (ESI) computed automatically. The Record Sale flow blocks animals still in their withholding window.

T

Treatment programs & what's due.

Schedule treatments by age ("7-in-1 first dose at 2 months") or by month ("annual booster in April"), and the Treatments Due page reads every active program to show what is due, soon, or overdue per animal. Spring and autumn calving presets ship with the app; run a split herd and activate both.

N

eNVD, direct & synced.

Build, sign, and lodge eNVD consignments straight into ISC — no portal hop. Save form templates for repeat lanes, duplicate a past consignment in one click, draw / type / upload a signature (or reuse last time's), and thread comments per consignment. NLIS devices attach at submit; ISC's authoritative answers, heads and movement state sync back onto the line. Direct-to-abattoir and feedlot exits stay distinct lifecycle paths, so date mismatches never occur. ISC production licence approved — switching on property by property now.

B

Bulk operations.

Select any number of animals from the register and act on all of them: record deaths, update sex / breed / birth year / tag colour / notes / origin PIC in a single transaction, or move to a new paddock. All bulk writes go through the same server-side constraints as single-animal operations.

O

Offline. Syncs later.

Dead zone at the back paddock? Tag, weigh, treat — events queue on your phone. Back in range, everything reconciles against the server-side source of truth. Server-side rule enforcement means no offline session can produce data that violates the tag or livestock constraints.

?

Ask help — AI that knows the product.

A floating Ask help button on every page opens an AI chat drawer. Plain-English questions ("how do I record a death", "what does EU=D mean", "can I move a whole mob between paddocks") answered from the same help corpus that powers the docs, with clickable citations to the full workflow. Feature-aware — only recommends capabilities your deployment has switched on. Every answer rated 👍 / 👎; a weekly eval gates regressions before they ship.

Included The full BREEDPLAN suite — performance recording, joinings, EBV import, bull selection, and ABRI export — is included for all subscribers at no extra cost.
E

EBV import &
bull selection.

Import estimated breeding values for any animal from a CSV paste. Sixteen BREEDPLAN traits across two sections — growth, carcase, fertility, maternal. Breed average comparisons and accuracy colour-coding per trait. Bull selection panel lets you filter by society, accuracy, and selection preset (Heifer Safe / Heavy Growth / Carcase Premium), then compare up to four bulls side-by-side with best-value highlighting.

  • 16 BREEDPLAN traits — CED / BW / GL / W200–W600 / EMA / Rib / Rump / IMF / NFI
  • vs-breed-average delta + accuracy colour-coded per trait
  • Heifer Safe / Heavy Growth / Carcase Premium presets
  • Side-by-side comparison panel for up to 4 bulls
  • EBVs persist across breeding seasons via upsert on re-import

Performance recording.

Record birth weight, 200-day, 400-day, 600-day, yearling, mature, joining, and pre-sale weights per animal. Body scans: EMA, rib fat, rump fat, IMF, and scrotal circumference for bulls. Bulk weight entry for mob weighing sessions. All data maps directly to BREEDPLAN's required columns on export.

J

Joining management & sire suggestion.

Record bull × paddock matings with start and end dates, set a target joining duration, and get an overdue alert if a mob's still running past it. Current mob count surfaces on each joining. Calving window derived automatically at 283 days ± 14 days. Open a calf record, set the dam, and the system suggests the probable sire from the dam's paddock history and joining overlap — confidence-scored high or low.

BREEDPLAN export.

One click generates an ABRI-compatible 28-column CSV ready to submit to your breed society. Contemporary groups auto-derived from birth year and paddock code. Validation panel shows per-animal readiness — weight count, scan completeness, issues list — before you export. No manual spreadsheet formatting.

Bull Sale Catalogue. In dev

Parse a bull sale catalogue PDF, filter by EBV ranges and selection presets, star a shortlist, compare finalists side-by-side, and register purchased bulls directly into your herd. Currently in development — available to early access customers on request.

A deliberately conservative estimate. Hours = recurring compliance admin (NLIS, treatments, chemicals, annual LPA prep) plus the per-animal re-keying you do today across a paper book, a spreadsheet and the NLIS portal — costed at A$45/hour, below typical farm-labour and contractor rates. It excludes the bigger upside that's hard to price: a single avoided withholding-period slip, residue breach, or failed audit can cost a whole consignment's market access — many times a year's subscription. Your figures will vary; the point is the order of magnitude.
