How to complete an eNVD, step by step

If you've never done an electronic NVD before, the platform can feel busier than the paper book. The order of operations is the same though — gather the details, pick the right form, declare the cattle, sign, send. Here's the working sequence.

Before you start: what to have ready

Most eNVD frustration comes from opening the form without the inputs in hand. Pull these together first:

If you keep paddock chemical records, drought-feed history, brands and HGP status against your animals, every question below is already answered — you're just transcribing.

The steps

  1. Sign in via MyMLA. Open the Integrity Systems eNVD platform — or your livestock-management software if it's connected directly. Your MyMLA credentials carry your LPA accreditation, so the declaration is backed by it automatically.
  2. Pick the right form. The LPA Cattle declaration (LPAC1) covers almost every cattle movement. Add the OSF0 if you're moving oestradiol-free females. Other forms apply to sheep, goats, bobby calves and EU-eligible cattle.
  3. Identify the livestock. Enter the head count, then attach the NLIS device IDs. You can paste, upload a file, or have them auto-attached from your software — whichever you've set up. The platform matches them against your PIC.
  4. Owner, consignee, brands. Confirm the owner-of-cattle details on Section 1 (LPAC1), add the consignee (the buyer or destination), and answer Q10 — brands. These are sticky between consignments if you keep templates.
  5. Work through the cattle questions. The declaration is a sequence of legal statements about the consignment. Without going through every Q-number, the major ones are: owned since birth, hormonal growth promotants, chemicals applied, withholding periods cleared, restricted-use chemicals and by-products fed, spray drift exposure and drought-related stock food or water. Answer honestly — these underpin everything downstream.
  6. Transporter section. Section 10 covers the carrier. Add the registration of the truck, the loading PIC and contact details. The buyer or saleyard usually needs this for traceability.
  7. Sign. The producer signature is a legal declaration. Depending on the platform, you can draw it on a tablet, type your name, or upload a signature image. The signature plus your MyMLA identity is what gives the eNVD its weight.
  8. Submit. Once submitted, the eNVD is visible to associated PICs and the consignee can pull it from their end without you re-keying anything. Keep the reference number handy for the carrier.

Common mistakes

Doing it faster next time

Most lanes — your usual abattoir, regular saleyard, repeat feedlot — share the same answers consignment after consignment. Saving a template for each one drops the work to confirming the head count, attaching the new RFIDs, and signing. When your software pulls the treatment, WHP and brand details automatically, what's left is the destination and the signature.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print an eNVD or keep a paper copy?

Yes. Once you submit, you can print all the forms in the consignment — Integrity Systems suggests three copies: one for your records, one for the receiver and one for the transporter. You can also share an eNVD by QR code, SMS or email, so you can go electronic even when someone downstream still works on paper.

What happens if I delete an eNVD consignment and start a new one?

If it's still a draft you haven't submitted or shared, deleting it and starting fresh is harmless — nothing was sent and no declaration travelled with stock. If it's already been submitted or shared, don't just delete and replace it: the sent eNVD is the record for that movement, a new consignment gets its own number, and you need one valid declaration matching the actual movement — not two. Cancel or correct a submitted eNVD through Integrity Systems eNVD Help rather than leaving a mismatch, and if the cattle have already travelled, make sure the paperwork matches what physically happened.

Can I complete an eNVD offline or on my phone?

Yes. The eNVD Livestock Consignments app works offline once it's installed — build the consignment in the paddock with no signal, then share it by QR code when you're back in range. There's a web version too.

The part that's actually hard: answering from memory

Nothing above is difficult on its own. The form is well built, it works on a phone, and one signature covers every form in the consignment. Producers don't get stuck on the interface.

They get stuck on step five. Read those declaration questions again and notice what they're actually asking: owned since birth, HGPs, chemicals applied, withholding periods cleared, by-products fed. Every one of them is a question about the specific animals on the truck — not about the mob, not about the property, about those beasts.

The portal has no way of knowing any of it. It has never seen your treatment log. So the answers come from recall, the book in the shed, or a spreadsheet someone last updated in autumn — and then you sign a legal food-safety declaration attesting to them. That's the real risk in the whole process, and it's why NVDs get signed wrong. Not carelessness; the tool simply can't help you.

The second problem is what happens afterwards. The finished eNVD lives on the portal, detached from the animals it describes. When an LPA auditor asks you to demonstrate that the withholding period really was cleared for the mob you consigned in March, you rebuild that link by hand.

How Tagline links individual cattle into the eNVD

Tagline's whole approach to eNVD is this: the declaration should be answered by the records, not by your memory of them. You connect MyMLA once, and from then on consignments are built from the animals themselves.

1. Start from the cattle, not a blank form

Instead of opening an empty consignment and describing a mob, you go to Sell Cattle, tick the animals actually leaving, and hit Create eNVD. Those specific beasts — and the destination — carry straight across. From the first click the consignment is tied to real, individually identified animals rather than a head count you typed in.

2. The declarations pre-fill from those animals' own history

This is the part that matters. Because Tagline already holds a lifetime record against every RFID, it can answer the LPA questions from the treatments, movements and statuses belonging to the exact animals you just selected — and it shows you why each answer was suggested:

The declaration asksWhere Tagline gets the answer
HGP treated?Treatment records against those animals — HGP is flagged one-way, so a treated beast can't quietly end up in an EU consignment.
EU eligible?NLIS EU status held per device (see EU=D explained).
Withholding periods cleared? The treatment log plus the computed WHP and ESI for every animal — checked on the movement date, not from memory.
Owned since birth / bred on property?Birth and movement history on the line.
By-products fed?Feed and paddock records.
Which devices are on this consignment? The RFIDs of the animals you drafted — no pasting or re-keying.

Every suggested answer stays editable. Tagline doesn't sign anything on your behalf and won't stop you overriding a value — it changes the job from recalling answers to checking them, with the evidence sitting next to each one.

3. One consignment, up to five forms

Tick what the movement needs — the standard NVD (LPAC1), EU NVD (EUC1), Cattle Health Declaration (HSC3), Oestradiol-Free Females (OSF0) and MSA. The EU NVD shares its questions with the standard NVD, so adding it doesn't double the work. Destination and transporter come from your recent lists.

4. Save as a draft, then sign and submit

Save it in Tagline, and optionally push it to Integrity Systems as a draft you can still edit. When you're ready, Sign & submit shows you — in order — what you're submitting, what will stay editable afterwards, every form's declaration text in full, and then your details and signature (draw it, type it, or reuse a saved one). One acknowledgement covers all the declarations, and Tagline submits to ISC and stores the returned eNVD number and status.

5. Afterwards, it stays attached to the animals

This is what closes the loop. The eNVD doesn't disappear onto a portal — it stays on the record of the animals it consigned:

Where this is up to: the integration is built and our ISC production licence has been approved — it's being switched on property by property. Until it's live for yours there's a full manual path: record the NVD, paper or electronic, against the sale, and the NVD Register lists every one with search and CSV export for LPA audits. Nothing about the workflow above changes when the connection is enabled; it just stops being a second website.

Integrity Systems gives you a good form and asks you to fill it from memory. Tagline fills it from the animals' own records and asks you to check it.
